Michigan is not one hiring market. Twenty cities in the state are above 60,000 people, fourteen of them in metro Detroit, and eight of those fourteen sit in Oakland and Macomb counties north of the city. Grand Rapids is a second metro on the other side of the state, with its own firms and its own pay.
A candidate in Grand Rapids is not commuting to Troy, and a search that treats the state as one market tends to stall in both. Our longest-standing Michigan relationship sits in Macomb County, north of Detroit.
