Hiring a Certified Financial Planner

The narrowest pool we recruit into, and the one where insisting on the credential has a real cost in time. Permanent, direct-hire placements across the country.

The trade-off

Required, or
strongly
preferred

Every CFP search starts with the same question, and it is worth answering honestly on the intake call rather than three months in. Requiring the marks shrinks the pool sharply and lengthens the search. Treating them as strongly preferred opens it to candidates who are mid-certification or hold adjacent credentials.

Neither answer is wrong. What causes trouble is a job description that says required when the practice would actually have hired the near-miss candidate it never saw.

What to look for

The marks
are a floor

The credential proves a body of knowledge. It says nothing about whether someone can sit with a nervous retiree and make a drawdown plan feel manageable, or whether they will fit a four-person office after ten years at a wirehouse.

This is the role we most often recommend Elite for, because the personality baseline matching against your existing team is the part that catches the mismatch a credential check cannot.
